Introduction

The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State’s legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness. 

 

GRADE

Grade ASTD14

This position offers a pay range of $25.80/hour - $37.48/hour, with potential for advancement up to $41.39/hour based on qualifications, equity, and hiring guidelines. Initial salary offers are determined by qualifications, experience, and available budget, and typically do not exceed $37.48/hour.

Main Purpose of Job

The OAG is seeking applicants for a Computer Services Technician position to assist in the day-to-day operations within the Information Technology Division. The position is responsible for deploying laptops, monitors and other equipment as part of larger rollout plans, managing inventory of computer hardware and software, supplies and equipment, triaging user requests and providing direct assistance or escalating the issue to the appropriate IT staff for resolution, maintaining the OAG fleet of copiers and printers and working with vendor reps to perform advanced repairs. This position may also be responsible for other day-to-day duties as required for the successful operation of the Information Technology Division. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.   

Experience: Two years of experience evaluating, implementing, and maintaining personal computer hardware and software.      

Notes:  
1. Candidates may substitute experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, data base or other applications on a year-for-year basis for the required education.  
2. Candidates may substitute nine credit hours in personal computer applications at an accredited college, university, or institution for one year of the required experience.  
3. Candidates may substitute the completion of a certification program in computer repair, such as Microsoft A+ or an   equivalent program for one year of the required experience.  
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Cyber and Information Systems classifications or Cyber and Information Systems specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess:


  1. 1. Two years of experience responding to and resolving IT help desk requests. 

  1. 2. Experience supporting Microsoft Windows 10, Windows 11 and Office 365 applications in a production IT environment. 

  1. 3. CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent.  

  1. 4. Experience with software and hardware.

SELECTION PROCESS

Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list for at least one year.  Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

BENEFITS

The successful candidate will be eligible for subsidized health benefits (medical, prescription, dental and vision coverage) and life insurance; and paid time off (PTO). The State also offers a free mass transit benefit for local bus and express bus services.

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits. 

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
